CHICAGO — We at The Pulp have exciting news to share!
On Thursday night, at the Independent News Sustainability Summit, The Pulp was named “New Business of the Year” 🏆 by LION Publishers, a national organization dedicated to local news entrepreneurship and sustainability.
The award honors The Pulp for its fundraising strategy during the launch of this nonprofit a little less than a year ago, as well as its “incredible content.”
We’re blown away.
From the judges of the 2024 LION Sustainability Awards:
The Pulp’s smart startup strategy offers valuable lessons for established news organizations. They set clear financial goals, cultivated the culture they envisioned, and executed strong early fundraising campaigns. By quickly launching additional revenue streams and producing unique, engaging content not found elsewhere in their market, they’re ensuring long-term success.
The awards celebrate operational resilience, financial health, and journalistic impact in independent online news across the U.S. LION Publishers’ membership includes more than 575 news organizations, and 200 of them submitted entries for this year’s awards.
The Pulp winning this recognition is, above all, a reflection of the greater Missoula community’s support of our work — the nearly 1,000 individual donors who make it possible — and we’re profoundly grateful. Thank you, thank you. 🙏
