It’s a news-flash mob

The Pulp’s print edition just hit the streets, dance moves and all.

After three years of pixels, it’s time to put ink to paper.

The first edition of The Pulp’s new quarterly paper is out in the world — free, finger-smudging and turning up at local businesses around Missoula.

We celebrated Thursday night at Downtown ToNight in Caras Park, where newspaper-toting members of the Zootown Dance Collective surprised the crowd with a flash mob to deliver the news (a news-flash mob?). It’s our way of announcing this award-winning nonprofit local news organization’s commitment to print.

After piloting a one-off paper last year to test the waters, now we’re jumping in — buoyed by the support of more than 1,300 individuals who’ve donated to The Pulp since we launched in the fall of 2023, more than 500 of whom chip in every month.

The cover story, by Ben Fowlkes, goes deep on how NIL money is changing Griz football — and whether Griz Nation can afford to keep up. Robert Chaney contributes a fascinating piece on mobile homes in Missoula in collaboration with a University of Montana history class. And a special collection of stories offers a trip into Missoula’s transportation psyche.

For now, you can only find these stories by getting your hands on the paper. We have 5,000 copies and we’re distributing them to coffee shops, breweries, restaurants and other businesses all over town in the coming days. The one place you can definitely find it? Rockin Rudy’s.

Big thanks to Rockin Rudy’s and all of The Pulp’s Newsroom Partners — the local businesses and organizations providing ongoing support of our mission — including Ear Candy Music, the Good Food Store, the Headwaters Foundation, Ink Realty Group, Missoula Aging Services and Betty’s Divine.

And to the Missoula Downtown Association, MissoulaEvents.net, the Zootown Dance Collective, Leaf+ Quiet, Big Dipper, China Woods, the Clark Fork Yacht Club and Linda Stoudt for supporting this paper specifically.
